Notepad is only small program but actually you can make big thing!! Notepad is a generic editor which can edit any files. When you open a certain file which its extension is *.txt or *.doc with Notepad you will find list / word, this might be a text file. Actually not only *.txt and *.doc file can open with Notepad, you also can open any files and edit that file. But not all files that will appear in a "good sight" in Notepad! Sometimes Notepad will display messy characters. It will be look like this (example):

Those characters are unreadable, or need a correct editor or program to open it. But however, Notepad can open it but you can not edit it in proper! But you can destroy it! This would lead Notepad as a powerful program. So be careful when you open a file such as *.exe file. If you incidentally modify the file and save the change, your file/program will not work!!!

About a year ago, a PESIN32 Virus was Popular! This virus distributed and spread with a medium; a diskette. In my country there are a lot of Internet rentals, a lot of people use this place to surf and browse Internet. Sometimes They saved any files from Internet to a diskette. When they re-opened the diskette, they found a strange document / word file in their diskette. With a teasing file name can invite them to open it. And suddenly, their computer had been infected by PESIN32 Virus! Many strange words documents appeared on the computer hard disk, computer got slow and frequently error. They were trying to delete those strange word documents, but those would be appear again with many more strange word documents. ANTI VIRUS Program such as Norton Anti Virus 2003 could not detect and remove this virus. The diskette which had infected could not be sterilized. The strange word document still appeared and could not be deleted. Even by formatting the diskette.

My Friend Wawan gave me a lot of diskettes which had infected by PESIN32 Virus. I took those diskettes. I had sterilized those diskettes using NOTEPAD. I had destroy the virus! Just only using NOTEPAD! I was happy to have free diskettes...:-)

Insert the infected diskette into floppy disk. If you want to check the diskette, use windows explorer. If you find a strange word file (you think/uncertain that you had not make this word file), Do not execute/ double click that strange word file. To make sure whether it is a virus or just a word file, make your files shown its extension from Folder Option. It can be done in a several way. I will guide you, these guidelines demonstrated in OS Windows 98. But you still can do virus destroying in a latest OS Windows (XP etc), but need several adaptations.

It will be display new window, click View tab and check the show all files and uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file type. Click OK.

You may see what will happen after you did that, see for your self on a widows explorer. Explore your diskette. You may find that the strange word document have an executable file extension *.exe. It must be a virus. The name of the virus does not always "Hello". Just pay attention to its file extension (*.exe) and some of the pesin32 virus try to decoy by using word document icon. It would be like this.

If the extension of the strange document is document file *.doc, it isn't a virus.

You can destroy the virus by using a notepad. Do not ever think to double click or open the Virus!! Open the Notepad program. Click File-->Open.

Open windows will appear. Click Files of type and choose All Files(*.*). It will display all files in your diskette. The strange document should appear. Choose it and click open.

You should see messy characters. Click Edit-->Select All. After that, click delete button from your keyboard for deleting all characters.

Congratulation !! You had destroy the virus! You can delete the virus permanently and sterilized your diskette!!! The destroyed virus will look like this.

Just delete this file by a conventional way! The strange word document file will no longer appear!
